Dale Henry Geist

What I Offer

I'm a performer, a songwriter, and a teacher.

Performing

I've connected with audiences from California to Maine. (Heck, just in the past couple weeks).

Songwriting

The songs first appeared when I was 12, and they haven't stopped. If I knew where they came from, I'd set up camp there.

Teaching

If you want to unlock the joys of playing guitar or writing songs, I can supply the key.

My Music

“Captivating melodies and a dose of rock’n’roll can’t mask the folk poetry at the heart of a Dale Henry Geist song. An eloquent storyteller in the populist tradition of Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen, Geist first catches the ear, then engages the mind, and finally delivers a knockout blow to the heart.”
— Anonymous (I found this in an old Google Doc labeled “Testimonials.”)

So Who Am I?

Like it says at the top, I’m a singer, songwriter, and guitar player. I believe that songs can move us, body, mind, and soul.

My twin suns are songwriting collossi Kris Kristofferson and Leonard Cohen. I also carry my share of musical DNA from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen. I’ve studied with Steve Earle, Peter Case, Steve Seskin, and Johnny Harper.

I grew up in far upstate New York, and have lived, studied, and worked in Chicago, Colorado, Western Massachusetts, Northern California (for decades) and now Southern Maine. I’m inspired by my kids, my dogs, nature, history, great writing and film, and, believe it or not, by people.

Client Testimonials

“We hope you were at Cherished Pub for this night to remember! The debut by Dale Henry Geist was a pleasure. We hope to see Dale back soon!"
Chelsea, Cherished Pub
“Dale writes songs like his imagination is stuck on a transistor radio cranking John Prine and Steve Earle, and he sings them with a broken down folkie soul full of jingle-jangle rock 'n' roll heart.”
Wayne Haught, Artist
“Dale’s songs are smart, honest, and know what they want to say. His profound understanding of the American song gives his work an earnest potency. Even when he’s being funny, Dale has something real to say.”
